”I have made many documentaries about the Civil War in Finland, above the War events, I have concentrated in personal stories; prisoners in war camps, orphans, women in arms, Russians. Only now I tell the story of the Finnish Legionnaires, that has not attracted too much attention so far. Throughout the making of this film I have unraveled the multi-layered events of the time, events that effected a huge population but that were ultimately crystallised in what the Legionnaires experienced.
My film Royal Reds delves deeply in the complicated World events during 1918-1920, but above all, it is a story about human devotion and solidarity.”
